New Ferrari F70

New Ferrari F70

Ferrari has revealed it will produce six new models before 2013 as part of Fiat’s restructuring plans announced today, including a new Enzo hypercar and a hardcore version of the 458.

First up will be a open-top Spider variant of the 458 that’s due in 2011. Also pencilled in for launch next year will be an all-new version of the range-topping, V12-powered 612 Scaglietti, a car that is also likely to spawn Ferrari’s first ever hybrid variant.

Ferrari revealed a hybrid 599 at the Geneva motor show, although the 612 is more likely Ferrari V12 to get hybrid tech as it would be easier to package in the four-seater. However, the system is not an F1-style KERS system that had been expected to make production in its road cars. The new 612 has been codenamed F151, although what name it will take for production isn’t yet clear.

In 2012 Ferrari will launch a new version of its halo Enzo hypercar. Just 400 Enzos were produced between 2002 and 2004 and the new model is likely to be powered by either a direct-injection twin-turbo V8 or a direct-injection twin-turbo V6. It’s expected the next Enzo will also be a flagship for Ferrari’s new-generation aerodynamic technology, including ‘active aerodynamics’ that pump air out through the body to influence the way airflows over and under the skin.

Other cars due in 2012 and 2013 include:

  • all-new version of the 599 GTB Fiorano, currently known as F152 in 2012
  • major facelift of the California will be launched in 2013
  • also in 2013 will be the 458 Scuderia

Ferrari has also said it wants to keep the differentiation between its sports cars and its grand tourers, ensuring there won’t be any crossover between the 458 and 599 supercars and the 612 and California cruisers. The firm will not make any more than four standard production models, meaning its range will stay as 458, 599, 612 and California. The Enzo is considered as a special model, and not part of its standard range.

Limited Edition Colnago for Ferrari di2 carbon bicycle

Limited Edition Ferrari bike

Limited Edition Ferrari bike

Colnago and Ferrari have brought their experience and technology together to create this Limited Edition bicycle, representing the highest synthesis of ‘Made in Italy’.

This bicycle is a technological icon with innovations from F1, as you’d expect. The bike sports a frame made of carbon fibre and weighs a mere 6 kg. With an opaque livery and minimalist graphics this bike is extremely elegant, without neglecting its sporty soul.

The main frame is based on 3PRS technology, a system to strengthen frames internally. A technology originated in aeronautics, improving the frame’s rigidity and reducing the weight. A further innovation is the employment of the Dura Ace Di2 electronic group, optimising the gears and keeping the bicycle chain tight and straightened, thus eliminating possible mistakes. The wheels are Racing Speed XLR’s with carbon fibre hub.

Once the bicycle has been ordered, the client will receive a form from the customer care department for the racing cycle’s personalisation. The client has to indicate his/her standover, the height and the shoe size for a perfect customisation. This collaboration seems to make more sense than most Ferrari-endorsed products, though at €12,500.00 it is certainly a premium item.
