
Charouz celebrates Renault F1 'Reserve Driver' status
2009 Aston Martin Racing driver, Jan Charouz, has taken quite a big step for 2010 as he enters the Formula One circus. Aged just 22, Charouz is the Renault F1 Team Reserve Driver. Already he has established his reputation as a top-line sports car driver having won the Le Mans Series title last year with Aston Martin Racing. Prior to that he enjoyed success in single-seaters and was crowned F3000 International Masters Champion in 2006. Apart from the association with Renault F1 Team, Jan will compete in the World Series by Renault for 2010.
For the past three years, 22-year-old Charouz has focused his efforts on sportscar racing in the LMP1 class of the Le Mans Series and 24 Hours Le Mans, and finishing his university studies. After a three year campaign, he has been crowned the 2009 Le Mans Series champion and finished fourth in 24 Hours Le Mans with the factory Aston Martin Racing team.
It is alleged that Charouz had already made the decision to compete in the World Series by Renault in 2010 to start his route into F1 when this very interesting offer from Renault F1 Team came in. Renault F1 Team announced a drivers pairing of Robert Kubica (POL) and Vitaly Petrov (RUS). Jan Charouz (CZE) and Ho-Pin Tung (CN) were announced as Renault F1 Team Reserve Drivers.
As Renault F1 Team ‘Reserve Driver, Charouz will participate in Renault F1 Team test sessions. He could be recruited in Grand Prix Friday’s free practices in official colours of Renault F1 Team and also in the race. Jan Charouz will closely work with the team and also participate in their promotions.
