Aston Martin One-77 tops 220mph

Aston Martin’s One-77 supercar has moved closer to setting a new all-time record for the British marque in initial high-speed testing after surpassing all predictions and comfortably breaking the 200mph mark.

The One-77 is currently undergoing a stringent development process ahead of planned launch in 2010 with high speed testing taking place at a top secret proving ground in southern Europe. In a series of test runs completed last week the One-77 exceeded original expectations and recorded a 220.007mph (354.86kmh) top speed in dry, but windy conditions under the guidance of the Aston Martin engineering team. Dynamic testing is now scheduled to continue into the New Year.

Powered by a new Aston Martin 7.3 litre V12 engine, the One-77 is based on an innovative new carbon fibre monocoque body structure and adopts new active aerodynamic technology.

One-77 deliveries are expected to commence in mid-2010.

Bentley Supersport Skis

Bentley Supersport Skis

Bentley Supersport Skis, along with matching poles and a ski bag, have been designed exclusively for Bentley by Zai, the Swiss manufacturer of ski products.

They incorporate a composite material called Zaiìra®, which has never before been used for skis. Zaiìra®, containing carbon fibres, is used in the top layer of the skis. Natural rubber is used in the central part, along with carbon fabric, chrome steel and long carbonfibre Reinforced Thermoplastic Composites (LFRTP).

The ski poles are also a special design as they use a combination of ‘titan’ and carbon fabric (currently used for golf shafts) to reduce weight and ensure high stability. The ski bag is also custom-designed by Zai for Bentley.

Handmade in Switzerland, the Zai for Bentley ski range will be limited to 250 units, with the skis priced at £5,900. See www.zaiforbentley.com

Yacht makers, Wally, launch new skis

Yacht makers, Wally, launch new skis

Monagasque yacht makers Wally have continued with their collection of skis with their latest offerings. The latest collection of skis uses the same carbon fibre and aerodynamic technology they developed for their yachts.

The skis are made principally of carbon fibre making them thirty percent lighter than conventional skis and able to navigate both on piste and off piste with more precision. The Wally skis are available from exclusive sporting goods stores in certain ski resorts worldwide.
