New York Grantour

May 2011

The city that never sleeps...
As this is our first event that will take part in the United States, we wanted to make it one we'd all like to do. We start with Premium Economy flights (Upper Class available if you'd prefer) to JFK Airport in New York; from there we transfer to the The Standard hotel in the West Village, Manhattan. Beyond the striking lobby, the rooms benefit from the neighbouring warehouse conversions - giving unobstructed views of the Hudson River.

After a short stay in the-city-that-never-sleeps, we'll be picking up our convertible Ford Mustangs and heading for the Pocono Raceway in neighbouring Pennsylvania – a 2.5 mile track that is a key part of the NASCAR Sprint season.

Pocono Raceway is also known as the ‘Tricky Triangle’ - a superspeedway located in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania at Long Pond. It is the site of two annual NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races held in June and August, and one NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event in July. The track is also used by the Sports Car Club of America and now, the Gentleman Drivers Club!

Our time at the Pocono Raceway will be to experience driving the ultimate American racers – NASCAR Stock Cars. We have tailored a day that will give you a fabulous introducion to NASCAR. After a thorough briefing session, we will be introduced to the cars and shown how to drive them. After a few tutorial laps as passengers, it’ll be your turn to take the wheel. These brutal race cars are capable of speeds well in excess of 160mph on the banked track, so it will certainly be an experience to remember. When it’s your turn to take the wheel, you can expect to do around 35 laps each – the aim is to have a fun, fast day that will leave you exhilarated – not exhausted.
